Welcome to the Birmingham Link of Chernobyl Children's Lifeline.
Chernobyl Children's Lifeline is a charity which brings children to the UK for recuperative breaks of one month. The charity's work is focused in Belarus, which received 70% of the radiation from the world's worst nuclear disaster in April 1986.
The after effects of this disaster are still evident in Belarus. Children are born with deformities, and cancer rates are high. Many children suffer regularly from headaches, nausea, nose bleeds and other illnesses due to the high levels of radiation in the air, water, and food grown on contaminated land.
The break in the UK allows the children to breath clean air, drink clean water and eat fresh food to boost their immune systems which have been damaged by the radiation. The four week stay in the UK can add two years to a child's life expectancy.
